Little Sprouts Kids Garden Club

At Color The Block, we believe that nurturing a connection to nature at an early age helps children grow into healthy, curious, and environmentally conscious individuals.

Our Little Sprouts Program, designed for children ages 0–5 and their families, introduces our youngest learners to the wonders of gardening, nature, and outdoor exploration through fun, hands-on experiences.

Meet Our Director of Early Childhood Development

De Ajanaè Gunn serves as our Director of Early Childhood Development, bringing a holistic approach to supporting young children and their families. She combines her early childhood development background with training in newborn care, breastfeeding support, and peer support. Her volunteer work as a doula further reflects her commitment to helping families feel informed, supported, and empowered from the very beginning.

Her approach recognizes the connection between a child’s development and the well-being of their family. Drawing on her experience supporting families through birth and early childhood, she brings a compassionate, family-centered perspective to her leadership and helps lay the foundation for children to learn, grow, and thrive.

What we do...

From planting their first seeds and exploring sensory gardens to engaging in arts and crafts, early literacy activities, and nature-based discovery, Little Sprouts creates opportunities for children to develop essential cognitive, social, emotional, and motor skills.

Through family workshops and parent engagement, we also encourage caregivers to participate in their children's learning journeys, strengthening family bonds and fostering a lifelong appreciation for the natural world.

As children grow, our Kids Garden Club builds on this foundation by providing school-age youth with engaging opportunities to explore gardening, environmental science, sustainability, and healthy living.

Through interactive activities such as planting, harvesting, identifying plants, learning about nutritious foods, and creating nature-inspired art, participants gain practical skills while discovering the important connections between the environment, food systems, and personal wellness.

The program encourages curiosity, teamwork, creativity, and environmental responsibility while helping young people understand where their food comes from and how they can positively impact their communities.
